Unfortunately, it is a fact that millions of people go hungry every day. It is a fact that millions of children under the age of 5 are malnourished and many die as a result of hunger. There are over 50 countries that do not produce enough food to feed their population but not all hunger is an effect of food production. Consider those in the eye of the storm, literally, natural disasters, conflict, poverty and of course poor agriculture all contribute to the problem.
We can’t turn our backs on this issue. The United Nations developed goals for the 21st century and one of them was to cut the proportion of hunger in people around the world in half.

ReplyDeleteIt's so sad to see anyone suffer, especially a child; especially when it's something that can be avoided.
ReplyDeleteI'm working hard with my youngest to help her understand that although mean ol' mommy won't buy her a laptop and a cell phone, etc., that she is far better off than a great many people in this world. I try to impress upon her that she might even go to school with some children that live under these conditions, or worse.
Every year I tell myself that I am going to volunteer and have my children volunteer; not yet having done so. More than just giving our money and our food, we should all invest our time to help others so that everyone is better educated about how people live outside of our own homes.
